Credo Partners with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley to Help Address Hunger in the Community
Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is one of the largest food banks in the United States with a mission to end hunger in the community. Founded in 1974, it has since grown to a network of now nearly 400 partners at over 900 sites across Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
While Silicon Valley is recognized internationally as a center for innovation and prosperity, one in six families in the region rely on Second Harvest for food assistance each month.
Second Harvest’s mission is one that the employees of Credo are passionate about. Credo Cares, the company’s community engagement initiative, selected Second Harvest as one of its non-profit partners this year.
One of the most well-loved volunteering events for Credo employees is sorting and boxing fresh produce and groceries at Second Harvest warehouses—an activity that started in 2023 when the Credo Cares initiative launched.
Last month, a team of 20 Credo employees spent the morning at the Cypress Center facility, sorting 24,075 pounds of carrots and bell peppers, and labeling ramen packages for delivery and distribution.
“Volunteering together as a corporate team at Second Harvest is an amazing hands-on opportunity for us to contribute to the goal of ending hunger in Silicon Valley,” said Anh Maxwell, Staff Test Engineer at Credo. “Not only does it allow us to give back, but also helps us build stronger bonds, sparks ideas, and creates impact that lasts far beyond the day.”
This year, as part of its charter to give back to the communities where its employees work and live, Credo joined Second Harvest’s Corporate Community Builder program. In October, Credo President and CEO Bill Brennan presented a donation to Second Harvest on behalf of the company.
Bill and the Credo Cares team also toured the Cypress Center in San Jose, a 75,000 square foot facility that contributes to the processing of more than 11 million pounds of food each month across Second Harvest’s warehouses.
“Second Harvest is making a real difference in the lives of thousands across Silicon Valley every day,” said Bill. “We deeply value the organization’s leadership and impact in the fight against hunger, and we are honored to support their mission.”
“As Second Harvest continues to serve nearly 500,000 people every month, partners like Credo are essential in our ability to meet the growing need,” said Emily Sparling, Senior Corporate Philanthropy Officer, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. “Credo’s recent donation to Second Harvest will help us provide enough food for 40,000 nutritious meals.” For more information about how Second Harvest is working to end hunger in Silicon Valley, visit https://www.shfb.org/
